You can’t hope to sell your home without making it available for showings. With a talented Mississauga real estate agent by your side, the process should be as smooth and easy as can be. I have more than 24 years of experience in the Mississauga real estate market, so we’ve learned a thing or two about successful home showings. A few of the best tips are highlighted below.
Make Yourself Scarce – Yes, it feels strange to allow strangers to wander through your home. With any luck, though, it won’t be your home for much longer. Prospective buyers are uncomfortable when sellers hang around the house. They are less likely to stay as long as they’d like, and they feel restricted in what they can and cannot say. Run to the store or otherwise make yourself scarce when a showing is happening.
Turn on All the Lights – Under normal circumstances, it’s wasteful to have all of the lights in the home on at one time. During a showing, however, it lets prospective buyers see that you have nothing to hide. Besides, your home will look more open and inviting when it’s brightly lit. If there are dark corners in certain rooms, buy cheap lamps and use them to brighten things up.
Go Easy on the Scents – Resist the temptation to douse your home with room deodorizer or to use those plug-in deodorizing gadgets during showings. The same thing goes for candles. For one thing, many people are sensitive to such scents. For another, it makes it look like you have something to hide and suggests that you’re trying to cover up an unpleasant odor.
Open the Windows – If the weather is nice, open as many windows as possible. The main exception would be a window that would allow too much street noise to come into the home. You want the home to be as serene as possible. Otherwise, fresh air will make your home feel more open and pleasant.</li>
