The bathroom is one of the most-used areas in any home and should be comfortable to spend time in, for all residents of the home. The features that are included in the space will determine its functionality and appeal. When remodeling a bathroom or making improvements, there are a few features to consider to create a setting that you enjoy. As a Mississauga real estate agent, I have the opportunity to view many bathrooms and here is my list of the current trends and best features. In the end, adding these elements to your bathroom will increase the value of your home.
Heated Ceramic Floors
Those who live in colder climates, ie Canada, can benefit from heated floors, which create a cozier environment that is easier to walk into every day. Heated floors reduce the energy usage on the property and will allow you to walk barefoot into your bathroom on cold mornings. Hot water tubes or wires are used underneath the tiles to produce even heat that slowly warms up over the entire surface. The heat spreads evenly and provides more warmth that lasts for a longer period.
Heated towel warmers can also be used for additional appeal and comfort during the colder months of the year.
Quartz Countertops
Quartz countertops have replaced granite materials on countertops in the bathroom for a chic and luxurious style that can influence the value of the home. Quartz countertops mimic marble but are more affordable to purchase and create a sleek design in the room. The material is engineered and contains 5 percent polymer resins and 95 percent ground natural quartz. They’re extremely durable and are stain and scratch resistant, which will allow them to maintain their appeal for many years.
You can complement the existing style of your bathroom with quartz countertops because they come in different color shades.
Doorless Showers
Doorless showers are a recent trend that allows the bathroom to look more spacious. Walk-in showers that are easy to enter can fit more people and often come with more showerheads. The doorless showers make the bathroom feel like a spa and can create a more relaxing setting that has great flow.
Walk-in tubs are also a new addition to bathrooms, which are considered to be just as stylish as they are functional.
Sound Systems
It can be more enjoyable to spend time in the bathroom while listening to music with tunes that are available when you’re getting ready or are bathing. Built-in sound systems are high-tech and can be controlled by a remote amplifier that is inside of a cabinet and is connected to CD or MP3 players.
Hands-Free Faucets
As hands-free faucets are commonly used in public restrooms, more people are incorporating them into their bathrooms at home. Hands-free faucets prevent bacteria from spreading in the room and are easier for kids to use when they can’t reach the handles. Many of the faucets also have a low flow option to save extra water.
Pedestal Tubs
Free-standing pedestal tubs work as one of the main focal points of the bathroom and are a classic feature that offers a vintage touch in the space. Pedestal tubs can be placed near windows to create an inviting setting that looks professionally designed.
As a Mississauga real estate professional with more than 27 years of experience buying and selling homes in the Greater Toronto Area, I have viewed countless washrooms. This is my list of the current trends in bathroom designs. If you are considering renovating one or more bathrooms in your home, perhaps take into consideration these design elements as they will mean added-value to your home.
